Hi all, we are out in HK for another week, have been up Beacon Hill and to Technical Wall. The main problem is that it is too hot to climb at these sites right now. While we can change the weather, are there any crags with shade?
Hi Simon,
Beacon is pretty much south facing, so it’s in shade after 1:30-2pm. Central crag is the opposite, although with central crag you can usually find something in the shade at any time of the day if you’re prepared to scurry from one crag to another. Cape collinson is another area where you can climb all day in the shade by moving from bunker to zawn and vice versa.
Hope this helps,
Patrick.

Hey Guys Just moved to HK. I’m looking to get back into climbing after a couple of years out of the game. My partner doesn’t climb so I’d love to hook up with some local climbers so let me know if you don’t mind a tag along. I’m pretty out of condition at the moment so I’d say I climb about 5 in the french (~14-15 in the Aus) but was climbing 7a (~24 Aus) indoor before I moved away from the rocks. Hi Matty,
I’m keen to meet some climbing partners and get out on weekends, possibly also to the rock gym at other times. I’m good for 6b-6c (Aus 23-24) when I’m in proper shape, which unfortunately is not now. Looking to get back there but right now I’m probably maxing out at 21 or so. I have a rack, some draws and a 70m rope, and am pretty experienced leading trad, multipitch and adventure climbing, as well as regular old sport climbing.

Hey Matty I’m in HK until november and I’d like to get out climbing as much as possible. I have climbed for many years mainly UK/Europe and US. Trad/sport etc. but got lazy, and started doing more mountaineering and winter climbing. want to get back into it. probably would lead 5.8-9 trad now and follow 5.10-11s. Hit me up anytime during the week or weekends I should be up for it. blamus(at)ymail.com

Hi All,
I just arrived in HK for permanent work. I am looking for enthusiastic sport/trad/multipitch climbers up for exploring everything that HK has to offer. My current max is French 7a, UK trad E1 but I’m happy to climb french 5 or dog up after someone on a 7b so long as they can belay!
Hey Howard,
I’m looking for a partner on Sun and or Monday Oct 19th & 20th. Sounds like we are climbing at a similar grade. Let me know if you are available on those days. Thanks!

Hey Howard, I’m in HK working until sometime next May, and am keen to get outside as much as possible to climb. I’m well below 7a at the moment for leading, but would happily belay and struggle my way up! I’m pretty experienced with trad, multipitch and sport, and have knowledge of a few of the better HK climbing spots. Currently I’m probably maxing out at 6a+, but with some practice could push it up to 6c. I have a 70m rope, a rack and some draws to add to the mix. I’m going to be in HK in the same time frame, and I’m looking for a climbing partner for a chill day at a crag. I’ve got sport/trad/multi-pitch experience. I’m not a local, but maybe we can work something out? Let me know.
I’m going to be in China for work but I will be out in HK on Sunday the 28th of Sept. I am looking to meet up with some locals to tag along and do some sport climbing. I will have my shoes and harvest but I can bring 10-12 quick draws if needed. Please let me know if anyone has any plans that day and if I can come along to enjoy what HK has to offer! Thanks!
I am a local climber, I always go outside climbing on Sunday, I can be your backup plan, If you really cannot find a partner, ask me one week before 14-09-28
I didn’t get any other replies and but I am still interesting in climbing this Sunday. We can arrange the details if you email Kevin at goldserve1@hotmail.com. Thanks and looking forward to the climbing scene in HK!
Someone (a local, most likely) left a chalkbag at Beacon today. If it’s yours or you know the person that lost it, tell me the color, brand and the other object left with it so that I can be sure it’s yours. 😉

Hey, I’m Peter.
I’m going to be pulling into Hong Kong in about three weeks. I had no idea there was climbing here, but I kind of stumbled upon this (didn’t bring any gear). I am basically at a beginning level for bouldering. Does anyone want to go out when I get there?
You can try boulder gym at Kwun Tong : GoNature Climbing gym , Middle kowloon : JustClimb, Hong Kong Island : Da Verm. You can meet some guys who would go outdoor climbing.
Thanks Jeremy! My schedule is pretty set (I’m only in town for about 2 days). Do you know of any good outside bouldering locations where I would be likely to meet other people on a weekday? Especially somewhere that I can easily point a cab driver to on a map. Thanks brother!
Hi, thinking of doing a trip to QingYuan, anyone knows the cost of renting a driver from Shenzhen (or knows any they recommend). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I’ve just moved to HK, I’m living near Tuen Mun and going to be here for a few years. I’m looking to get back into bouldering and sport following 4 months of with a tendon injury,
Any good walls round this part of the new territories to start getting back into it?
There are a few gyms in Hong Kong, you can choose which ones you want to visit. Perry’s bouldering gym is in Kwai Fong, Just Climb is near Diamond Hill, Da Verm is near Sheung Wan, Go Nature is in Kwun Tong. If you prefer routes, then there is the YMCA lead wall in Jordan but that’s outdoors, and YMCA in Tsim Sha Tsui, you will need to take a course or pass an assessment to use these walls. There are also a few government walls around and you also need to pass assessments before you can use them. You… Read more »
Nothing around Tuen Mun, but you can take the 67M from there to Kwai Fong and Perry’s gym, one of the best, cheapest, most convenient gyms in the territory.

Hi Jared– there is actually some decent climbing in Guangzhou on top of Baiyuan Shan (it is called garbage crag or something due to the nearby dumpster) and over 200 excellent routes in a place called Yingxi/Jiulong that is in the rural part of Qingyuan, I would suggest posting on Shenzhen Rock Climbing on Facebook which I help manage as well as the rock climbing group on Guangzhou Stuff– that group was active last year, not sure about recently. I’ve been out of the game too, for most of the summer and also out shape. Keen to get back onto the rock and just have some fun days out. I have sport gear. Let me know if you or anyone else out there is keen for a climbing partner. Wazza (at) polka dot co.za
Hi All,
I just arrived in HK for permanent work. I am looking for enthusiastic sport/trad/multipitch climbers up for exploring everything that HK has to offer. My current max is French 7a, UK trad E1 but I’m happy to climb french 5 or dog up after someone on a 7b so long as they can belay!
Any takers?
Howard.
Hi Howard, I’m interested. Email me and we can talk more. davidmccarthy1 [at] gmail.com
Hey Howard,
I’m looking for a partner on Sun and or Monday Oct 19th & 20th.

Let me know if you’re interested, my email… Read more »
I’m in HK until november and I’d like to get out climbing as much as possible.
Hi. My girlfriend and I are visiting HK this October, bringing sports gear to get some routes done as well as relax. Where is the best place to start and also to buy a guidebook. We will be staying in Kenny Town at first but I know the transport is great. Which are the best Islands to hit for climbing? Hope to meet some of you at the crags.

Hi Ron,
I’m going to be in HK in the same time frame, and I’m looking for a climbing partner for a chill day at a crag.

Someone (a local, most likely) left a chalkbag at Beacon today. If it’s yours or you know the person that lost it, tell me the color, brand and the other object left with it so that I can be sure it’s yours. 😉

Hi, a buddy and I will be in Hong Kong soon for about 10 days (sept 23 – Oct 2). Would love to go bouldering in Shek O if possible, but we won’t have a crashpad. Are there places to rent?
If not, is there any deep water soloing in/around Hong Kong?
Anyone available to meet up and climb?
Thanks!
Looking for people to climb with in Honk Kong from July 22-24. I have the Climb China guide book which covers Hong Kong, plenty of draws and a couple of ropes so psyched to jump on anything, bouldering, sport, trad.. Heading to Yangshuo and beyond from late July. Cheers, Johny.
john.pargeter@live.com

Ho Joel,
Send me an email at reachsteveb@outlook.com and we can organize something for tomorrow.
Looking for a climbing partner to climb either Sat, Sun, Mon or Tues. Perhaps Nicholson or Central. I have all my own gear. Comfortable on 5 to 6a+. Send me an email. Steve.
Hi I’m going to be in HK on the last weekend of June(28th and 29th) and would love to join anyone to do some climbing, outdoors if possible. I’ve only got basicequipment, harness and shoes. I can lead 6a+ french grade back home. If anyone wants to climb during that weekend, please email me at dogfish82 at hotmail.com .
Hi all! I go to ‘Just Climb’ near Diamond Hill MTR station 1-2 times per week, weekend for sure. If anyone is interested to go boulding together, it would be great. Since I just re-start bouldering (I did on weekly basis in London 2 years ago), would be wonderful if someone can give me advises in some difficult routes!
My email: evaviajando @ gmail.com
P.S. Michael, I sent you an email about the bouldering gym, you may check it out.

Hi, I’m in Hong Kong for the week end and am looking for someone to do some outdoor climbing with (if anyone climbs in this heat). I’ve been climbing sport, trad, multipitch and ice for about 10 years. I don’t climb the grades to show for it though, for sport climbing on a good day at home in Sweden I might be able to do f7a but have experienced stiff grades previously here in Hong Kong compared to home (or anywhere else I’ve been for that matter). I have a harness, shoes and a belay device (ATC, but can belay… Read more »
I forgot to mention, I’m free for climbing on Monday too.
SYKE!
Im a Travelling climber from the UK on my way to yangshou eventually and was wondering if I could get some climbing done while in HK 🙂 I’ve got all equipment for sport but will do anything, go anywhere if I can find a partner. Only in HK less than a week (till 10th may) but worth a go if anyone is keen. Jakey@live.co.uk
No pad, do you know if we can rent? Also, I’ve heard there is some deep water soloing somewhere in hk?
Hey Olaf,
I only have my shoes with me, no harness, but I’m down for some bouldering. You have a good spot in mind?
Hin Connor,
we could go to Hom Kok, do you have a crash pad?
Hello!
I’ll be working in Guangzhou and Qingyuan for three weeks beginning May 3rd. I would LOVE to go to Yangshuo for a weekend or two, but would also be open to climbing in HK or anywhere else. I’ll have lots of gear with me and will be down to climb anything. If you’d like to meet up, especially for a trip to Yangshuo, or have some China climbing/travel tips, I would be very grateful!
Thank you!
Jared
Hi,
Im going to climb tomorrow in HK, I was thinking about Beacon hill, do some sport, I climb 6c, 7a max. I have gear, don’t have a rope. Are you uintrested? Im open to go some buldering as well. Olaf +46 723 528 858
You could possibly find a good YS partner there as well although it is pretty easy to meet people there if… Read more »
I can go Thursday the 24th if that works. Also, Im a beginner but I learn quickly and have been bouldering for a while.
Hey all – I know it’s very late notice, but anyone interested in climbing tomorrow? I’m in town for a week and would love to check out the rock. Will lead anything up to 5.12b/7b+ sport.
Let me know!
Anyone want to go out tomorrow (April 23)?
I’m down for anywhere!
Hey guys, looking to do some climbing from around the 28th of april to may first. Let me know if you are interested in joining up. FYI I’m fairly new to the sport so I would love if someone could show me the ropes.
Hi, I will be visiting Hong Kong for a couple of days at the beginning of May and It would be super nice to team up with somebody for a day or two. I mostly do trad but sport is also fine. Not harder than 5.10 on lead. I prefer longer routes with a view. I will be traveling light and only bring harness and shoes, I can compensate for that by paying for gas/rental car/etc. Please send be an email if you are interested: marlene.agerstrand@itm.su.se.
Hi Steve. I can only do evenings during the week, but the weekend would be great? New to town but keen to get out any time?
I’m on holidays all next week, 14/04 to 18/04, and looking to get in as much climbing as possible. New to the sport – can lead 5 and 6A, top rope a 6B. Favourite spots are Nicholson and Collinson. Got all my own gear. If you’re interested, leave a reply.
Hi Steve. I can only do evenings during the week, but weekend should be fine. New in town, but eager to get out anytime?
Hi Steve, I’m off every afternoon of next week. Would love to go climbing!
Hey Alex and Sophie. Let’s organize something. Email me at reachsteveb@outlook.com
Me and my wife Just arrived in HK for 2 weeks before we head into china. We are both big climning enthusiasts looking to get outside for some sport climbing. any local climbers out there with experience of the various climbing areas to tag along and help us. Other than that some advice on the best places to try first? We can both climb up to 6b.
Hello all, I am going to be back to Hong Kong. Last time I boulder in Shek O and Tai Koo. This time I am aiming to going to Tsuen Wan, probably around 29/4 or 30/4. I have a pad so if anyone is interested to tag along, drop me a message
Hi there. Just landed in HK and here for 3 months. Experienced climber from UK in trad, bolt, bouldering. Really keen to get out and explore the crags, or climb indoors as well. Foolishly didn’t bring my gear so waiting for it to arrive by post. Don’t know anybody here who climbs, so looking for a partner or tag along with anyone else who is heading outside or to the wall. Message me if you are interested. Thanks.
Hey Alex, would be interested in meeting up for a climb. You can find me at james . k . haugen at gmail
Hi everyone, I’ll be in HK 4/12-13 and would be down to sport climb or toprope. If I can find a partner, I’m going to attempt to jam a rope and draws into my draws. I’m not much of a sport climber but I can climb 5.11+ in at least one of the crags around home. I’m a competent belayer and I don’t take it likely considering we’re all strangers here. If anyone wants to go out for either sat or sun please email me alean.daniel at gmail.com.
My trip got delayed by one week. Anyone free to climb on 4/19 or 4/20?
